Hydrated Lime
Kaaren Hydrated Lime Mineral also known as Calcium Hydroxide, is an inorganic compound which is formed when Calcium Oxide is combined with water and is used in tanning and agriculture. Hydrated lime is also used in the treatment of drinking water. Hydrated Lime is used as Industrial Raw Materials with other industrial raw material products such as Silica Floor, Limestone, Aggregate, Quicklime, Talc, Volcanic, Rock and Abrasives.
Here are some of the primary uses:
1. Construction
- Mortar and Plaster: Used to make lime mortar and lime plaster, providing a durable, breathable, and flexible material for building and finishing walls.
- Whitewashing: Applied to walls and ceilings for a white, antimicrobial finish.
- Soil Stabilization: Used to stabilize soil for road construction and other civil engineering projects, improving soil strength and reducing plasticity.
2. Agriculture
- Soil Amendment: Adjusts soil pH by neutralizing acidic soils, improving soil structure and nutrient availability for plants.
- Pest Control: Used as a fungicide and pesticide, protecting plants from diseases and pests.
- Animal Feed: Added to animal feed to provide a source of calcium and to reduce acidity.
3. Water Treatment
- pH Adjustment: Used to adjust the pH of drinking water and wastewater, making it less acidic and removing impurities.
- Softening Water: Helps to remove hardness from water by precipitating calcium and magnesium ions.
4. Industrial Applications
- Paper Industry: Used in the production of paper to purify and bleach pulp, and to adjust pH levels.
- Sugar Refining: Used in the purification process to remove impurities from raw sugar cane juice.
- Chemical Industry: A key ingredient in the production of various chemicals, such as calcium stearate, calcium hypochlorite (bleaching powder), and in the manufacture of petrochemicals.
5. Environmental
- Flue Gas Treatment: Used to remove sulfur dioxide (SO₂) from exhaust gases in power plants and industrial facilities, reducing air pollution.
- Neutralizing Acidic Wastes: Applied to neutralize acidic wastes from industrial processes, preventing environmental contamination.
6. Food Industry
- Food Additive (E526): Used in food processing as a firming agent for fruits and vegetables, and in the preparation of corn tortillas and other foods.
7. Medical
- Dental Applications: Used in dental treatments for pulp capping and root canal procedures due to its antibacterial properties.
8. Miscellaneous
- Leather Processing: Used in the tanning process to remove hair and prepare hides for further treatment.
- Manufacture of Glass: An ingredient in the glass-making process to improve the durability and chemical resistance of glass.
